Fabric Friday!

From Carolyn~

For those of you who don’t know me, I pretty much love all things that sparkle and have some sheen to it. So when we received this amazing metallic sky blue fabric I was over the moon! It turned out beautiful and I think every room (really, every room)  needs a little bit of sparkle.

Here are some options to help add something to your home:

It's All in the Details

Take a look at this beautiful reupholstered chair.  At first glance, your eye brings you to the large floral print and overstuffed cushions.  But look a little closer at the bottom of the cushion where it rests on the actual chair.

See that right there?  Look how the flower's stem lines RIGHT up to the stem on the bottom of the chair!  The other flowers seamlessly fall into place making the transition from cushion to chair FLAWLESS.  We take GREAT PRIDE on our work at Finish Pros, down to every detail!

1920's Channel Back Barrel Chair Restoration

Take a look at this Restoration!

Onsite Furniture repair

Furniture restoration doesn't half to be a stinky  process!

Every week we are asked to repair or restore furniture in an office setting.  While it is convenient for offices to have repair work done onsite, sometimes there are other concerns.... like not stinking up the office with lacquer and finishing fumes.

A few weeks ago, a local law firm had us come take a look at a table with a laminate top framed by mahogany trim. Over the years, the finish had began to show signs of wear and several compression marks needed to be repaired. The actual process of repairing the compression marks began back coloring the damaged wood. This was done by using a natural tone stain that complimented the original finish. We also used a natural tone mahogany burn in stick filler and smoothed the surface with a hot knife. The tough part was blending the finish to match.  After that process was complete,  I used an odor free water based finish as a durable topcoat and the end result was amazing!  To quote our customer, "Wow, I cant believe you could repair our conference room table onsite! It looks great!"  #noodor #goodasnew #onsiterepair

Hand-stripped with care..

Ever wonder how that paint from 1943 is removed from your family heirloom?  How can a piece of furniture look brand new after sitting in someone's attic for over a hundred years?

At Finish Pros, we take pride in our work and handle everything that comes into our shop as if it were our own.  Furniture is hand stripped every day by our skilled craftsmen.  Take a look at this video of an oak table from the early 1900's that's being stripped...

Subtle yet BEAUTIFUL....

The kitchen featured here turned out phenomenal.  Our craftsmen brought the cabinet doors and drawers to our shop and worked their magic.  The brass hardware was removed and holes were filled.  The cabinets were hand glazed and finished with a clear coated satin finish.  Another special feature of this kitchen that you can't see if the soft-close hinges that we applied throughout.  The glazed cabinets provide rich beauty and depth to this kitchen...  We are so happy with the end result!

Fabric Friday: Funky Leopard Print

My absolute favorite thing is when someone comes in with an old piece and is totally willing to put something a little different on it. We took in a little chair yesterday that will be getting a leopard print on it and I cannot wait to see how it turns out. Here are two pieces we have done, with the same awesome red leopard print fabric.

This fabric was not purchased through us but we do have some great other choices.

Refinished buffet

We don't usually walk around our shop with cameras, but refinishing can be such a fun process to observe from start to finish.  This buffet was stripped by one of our skilled craftsmen and then stained by another.  Your family heirloom pieces are in good hands at Finish Pros!

Fabric Friday

Today our fabric is this amazing pattern from Greenhouse Fabrics. It comes in 12 different colors and is durable, which is sometimes hard to find in such a contemporary pattern. Also the fabric can be used on both sides allowing you to use the mostly white with just a bit of color. We also have used this a lot recently; mostly white with the grey for a girls room, a light blue on a club chair, and the khaki color on a set of 8 parsons like chairs for a dining room. Look at the fabric on this remarkable chair! ~Carolyn M

What's YOUR story?

"Can you do me a favor and not sand out those cigarette burns on the top? I’ve never been a smoker, but my Uncle Ted was, and those marks always help me to picture him when I sit down at the desk to work..."

For a piece of furniture to be good, it has to be well-built and have “good bones”, but  in order for it to be truly great, it has to  have a story. This is essentially the mark of all great furniture: we’re able to have a short, meaningful conversation about it.
The conversation doesn’t necessarily have to be a heavy one, dealing with deep sentimental value or human loss, because sometimes a piece as simple as the current family sofa has an interesting story tied to it: your family has watched a thousand rounds of Jeopardy on that old thing! When your teenage son was a toddler, he used it as a launch pad for his first flight attempt and wound up with a few stitches. Your Aunt falls asleep on it after dinner every time she comes over...
In the era of disposable furniture (and disposable everything for that matter), it’s important to remember that we can all stake a claim on meaningfulness by holding on to these pieces that have stories. You won’t find stories at the big-box furniture showroom out along the highway - just a lot of imported chairs and sofas constructed from particle wood and staples, each awaiting their certain fate in the forgotten junk hills of a local landfill.
Finish Pros is grateful and extremely humbled to be in the unique position of helping people hold on to furniture that has meaning. Through the art of upholstery, refinishing, and restoration, we get to preserve meaning and honor a family’s stories.     ~ Ben W.
